Mother-Son Dance Song Selections of 2015 | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

Mother-Son Dance Song Selections of 2015

Yesterday, I started a three-part series of songs selected by my 2015 clients for their formal dances. You can listen to part one – Father/Bride Dance Song Selections of 2015 – by clicking this link.

As always, I’ve embedded the songs via Spotify, where applicable, for your listening enjoyment. For those brides-to-be and grooms-to-be working on their wedding music, I hope you find these playlists helpful as you select the perfect song for your own First Dance and subsequent parent dances.

Father-Bride Dance Song Selections of 2015

As I wrap up the 2015 wedding season, I thought it would be fun to do a three-part series of songs selected by my 2015 clients for their First Dance, Father/Bride Dance, and Mother/Son Dance. As always, I’ve embedded the songs via Spotify, where applicable, for your listening enjoyment. For those brides-to-be and grooms-to-be, I hope you find these playlists helpful as you plan the music for your own First Dance and subsequent parent dances.

Let’s get started with part one of the series: Father/Bride Dance Song Selections of 2015

My Ten Favorite Party Songs, Ever | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

My Ten Favorite Songs to Play at Weddings & Parties

The other day, I was asked by one of my brides-to-be what my favorite song to play at a party was. I replied without hesitation: “Easy. Montell Jordan’s ‘This Is How We Do It’. In fact, the day that song gets no response, I’m hanging up my headphones.

While driving home on I-5 Friday night, I started to expand upon the question: “If I was to make a Top Ten list of my favorite party songs to play at weddings and other events I DJ, what would be the other nine songs?” After spending much of the weekend debating, I finally narrowed my list down to my ten favorite party songs to play at weddings and other parties I DJ at. My only requirement? I had to love – and regularly play – the original version, not a remixed version.

14 Country Bouquet Toss Songs (That Aren't "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!") | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

14 Country Bouquet Toss Songs (That Aren’t “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”)

A couple of weeks ago, I started a “Weddings & Country Music” playlists series when I posted an article on contemporary country first dance songs. The reaction to that playlist was overwhelmingly positive. Shortly after posting that list, I received a PM on Facebook from a bride in Atlanta, Georgia about possible country bouquet toss songs for her wedding reception.

So, on this gorgeous 85-degree day, I popped the top off on another ice-cold Bud Light and racked my brain for country songs that would work for the Bouquet Toss.

Twenty Perfect Contemporary Country First Dance Songs

This week’s playlist is country first dance songs and it comes by request from a bride and groom looking for a contemporary country love song for their First Dance later this summer. Their only request was a song that was released within the last six years. And it just so happens that Country music is actually one of my favorite genres, as it is one of the few genres I actively listen to on a daily basis.

So, I popped the top off an ice-cold Bud Light and racked my brain for contemporary country love songs, taking into consideration that a few selections from 2009 had carryover appeal to 2010 – such as Brad Paisley’s “Then”. The following are the twenty selections I suggested to them.

Ten Last Dance Songs (That Aren't Journey or Semisonic) | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

Ten Last Dance Songs (That Aren’t Journey or Semisonic)

Let me preface with this: “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Closing Time” are fine songs. But they are the most overplayed last dance songs of all time*. So let’s look at a list of unique Last Dance songs that will bring everyone to the dance floor before your sendoff.

(*This is purely my opinion and has zero statistical research to back it. I’m probably still right, though.)

12 Perfect Wedding Dinner Songs

Couples planning their wedding will often ask me, “How do you get people on the dance floor?” My response isn’t to start a line/group participation dance, or play “I Gotta Feeling” (let alone “Celebration” and/or “We Are Family) , or even open the dance floor with the #1 Top 40 song on the charts. Rather, my response comes from years of experience: “It starts with proper programming and building energy over the course of dinner.” That’s right, dinner music matters.

10 Bouquet Toss Songs You Won't Hear At A Wedding (But Should!) | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

10 Bouquet Toss Songs You Won’t Hear At A Wedding (But Should!)

Other than {Insert Current Number One Pop Song Here}, no other song will have the ladies running to the dance floor like the bouquet toss song.  But oddly, while the bride is making sure every part of her day is unique and reflective of her style and personality, they often play it safe with the music and opt for Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like A Woman!”.

Seriously, quit selecting those songs.
