Joel & Hilary

Congratulations to Hilary & Joel! July 18, 2014, was another beautiful evening at Roche Harbor Resort, with another delicious meal provided by the culinary team led by executive chef, Bill Shaw. The festivities of the day were captured by Clinton James, who not only looks Don Draper dapper as he rocks a pair of suspenders but always does fabulous work as a photographer. Also, Joel & Hilary’s wedding was designed, planned, and organized to perfection by Jacky Ross Grotle of Event Success; Jacky is great to work with and I hope to work another event with her in the near future.

For me, every wedding day has a story and this day is no exception. In addition to DJing, I was supplying a photo booth from my company, The Puget Sound Photo Booth Co. However, the photo booth attendant I had scheduled canceled at the absolute last minute, and I was forced to scramble. My father was kind enough to loan his work truck on short notice, and that transported both my DJ and photo booth equipment.

To make matters worse, in the midst of the last-minute chaos, I forgot my suit at home. Of course, I realized this while boarding the ferry. Luckily, a small second-hand store on Friday Harbor had a pair of black pants and a blue dress shirt that sort of fit. Trust me, I was stressed to the max and it was only 11 am.

Fortunately, Hilary & Joel were understanding. Years later, they’ll probably forget the fact their DJ wasn’t wearing a belt or tie – unless they see me in one of their pictures – but they will remember the fun they had at their wedding reception with their guests, dancing on the dance floor, and smiling in the photo booth. And that’s the most important thing.

It’s all about perspective. Not everything goes as planned, but what’s planned to go right, must go right. Period.

Hilary & Joel: thank you for having me as a part of your Roche Harbor wedding; it was another magical one. It was my honor, and privilege, to serve you both. I wish you both the best of luck and success in all you do.
