WEDDING MUSIC GUIDE
Looking for the best Hip-Hop songs for your wedding reception playlist? The following is a curated playlist of Hip-Hop & Rap songs that will have everyone on the dance floor having the time of their life!
For simplicity, this Wedding Music Guide is combining Hip-Hop and Rap together as one. While the music is only a subset of the hip-hop culture, rap is the vocal style of speaking lyrically in rhyme and verse.
Hip-Hop was born in the 1970s at New York City block parties, where DJs would isolate the percussion breaks of popular Funk, Soul, and Disco songs via various turntable techniques and skills. An Emcee would rap over these extended breaks, paving the way to a genre that would become more mainstream in the 90s and 2000s. Today, it is one of the most—if not the most—popular genres in music today.
As always, a Spotify playlist is included at the end for your listening enjoyment!
