Jessica & Adam

I take great pride in the fact that so many of my friends from Sumner High School have asked me over the years to be a part of their wedding vendor team. First, there was Andrea & Bryan, then Janet, and now, I can add Jessica to that list, as her and Adam had a beautiful wedding celebration over Labor Day Weekend at Swans Trail Farm in Snohomish, Washington. And for Jessica, it couldn’t have been more perfect: her beloved WSU Cougs beat Wyoming, and the UW Huskies lost to LSU.
Together, Jessica & Adam are a really fun couple who have the perfect chemistry; plus, their hobbies, interests, and personalities really balance each other out. And they genuinely like each other and have a playful friendship, which I observed multiple times throughout the entire planning process. But most importantly of all, they have a fantastic core group of friends that made for a fun evening! While their wedding could be described as a bit more intimate in terms of guest count, that didn’t stop Jessica, Adam, and their friends from GETTING DOWN on the dance floor as I mixed Top 40 hits and classic party favorites. And when I dropped “Pony” by Genuine? Easily the highlight of the night. Easily.

Vin & Erika

What happens when you mix Luke Bryan’s “Kick The Dust Up” with California Swag District’s “Teach Me How To Dougie”? You get a huge roar of approval from Vin, Erika, and their wedding guests. And that’s one of the best parts about DJing: playing what they expect and following it up with something they weren’t expecting. That’s the open-format approach and it’s why I love working for couples like Vin & Erika, who trust what I’m doing with the dance floor.

Eric & Margie

Today, October 12th, 2012, I am rewriting this blog entry, as Eric & Margie’s wedding day means much more to me today. Sadly, Margie lost her battle to Triple Negative Breast Cancer yesterday.
This wedding reception will forever remain special to me. Upon arriving at Swan Trail Farms, the rain had been off and on for much of the day, which changed the plans of the entire wedding and reception. But in reality, it didn’t matter; the fact that this day was actually happening was all that mattered. Listening back to the recording of the ceremony, you can hear the sound of rain in the background – and coming from a guy who has actually watched The Notebook or recalls the kissing scene in Spiderman – it made it all that more romantic for Eric and Margie.
But God works in mysterious ways – and He convinced Mother Nature to stop raining, just long enough for us to stage a wedding party outside for a true Grand Entrance. And in the hours to follow, the most meaningful wedding reception ever unfolded, highlighted by the toasts and surprise serenade to Eric & Margie by Justine, complete with a photo montage.
The live mix below is the ENTIRE dance floor set from Eric & Margie’s wedding. It’s the first live mix I have ever released, and I am thankful that I pushed record before I began my set. A month or so ago, Eric & Margie had emailed me saying that one of their favorite things to do was hop in Eric’s truck, just the two of them, and drive while listening to that mix. It left me (almost!) at a loss for words. To this day, and likely for a long time to come, I listen to this mix once a week on my iPhone while I drive up and down I-5.
