The Country Wedding Cocktail Hour | Tony Schwartz: Wedding MC & DJ

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we love our country music. And with so many barns and rustic-themed venues, country is the perfect genre to feature during the cocktail hour of a wedding reception. So, I’ve designed a mid- to uptempo playlist of modern country hits and classic favorites that are perfect for socializing with family and friends over a few cold ones.

Tony’s Country Wedding Cocktail Hour Drink of Choice: I’m a simple man, so when I’m at a country bar or a country concert, I like to keep domestic, light, and cold. I designed my Country Cocktail Hour mix while drinking Bud Light from the bottle. Enjoy my selections, and as always, the full Spotify playlist is available at the end!

The 2017 Country Wedding Cocktail Hour Playlist

Florida-Georiga Line – “H.O.L.Y.”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
For most wedding ceremonies, the Recessional song will either be a mid-tempo or uptempo selection, so I like to start my Country Wedding Cocktail Hour Mix with this well-known, mid-tempo, country love song.

Zac Brown Band – “Loving You Easy”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Carrie Underwood – “Heartbeat”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
I just love Carrie’s voice in this song. No one could have performed this better than her.

Thomas Rhett – “Make Me Wanna”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Brett Eldridge – “Drunk on Your Love”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band – “Fishin’ In The Dark”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
This is one of those classic country songs that every one knows and loves. I believe a good playlist has a balance of contemporary and classic; this is one of those must-include classics.

Kip Moore – “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
Kip’s “Hey Pretty Girl” also works, but I like it better in my dinner playlist.

Brothers Osbourne – “Stay A Little Longer”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

George Strait – “Check Yes or No”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
This classic is one of those country love songs that are perfect for cocktail hour: a nice tempo with great lyrics.

Blake Shelton – “Honey Bee”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
Another great Blake song would be “Sangria”. Personally, I prefer “Honey Bee”. Any of the three will do.

Randy Houser – “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Kenny Chesney feat. P!nk – “Setting The World On Fire”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
If I’m building a country playlist, you can bet the farm I’m including my favorite artist, and the guy I named my bulldog after, in it at some point.

Keith Urban – “Somebody Like You”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Faith Hill – “This Kiss”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Conway Twitty – “I’d Love To Lay You Down”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
I like to include songs people love, but aren’t expecting at all. This is one of those songs.

Hank Williams – “Hey Good Lookin'”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
Middle of the playlist, I like to do a quick three-song classic country set here. Here’s song two.

Johnny Cash – “Ring of Fire”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
And song three. And let’s be real: it ain’t a good Country Wedding Cocktail Hour Playlist without some Cash.

Luke Bryan – “Drunk On You”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
A lot of Luke Bryan songs work, but I like this one at summer weddings for the line: “I’m a little drunk on you, and high on summertime.”

Jon Pardi – “Head Over Boots”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Chase Rice – “Gonna Wanna Tonight”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Locash – “I Know Somebody”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Old Dominion – “Snapback”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Jason Aldean – “Tonight Looks Good On You”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Little Big Town – “Little White Church”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
At this point in my Country Wedding Cocktail Hour Playlist, we are nearing the Grand Entrance segment. It’s time to build the energy up.

Dustin Lynch – “Seein’ Red”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
This was my favorite country song released in late 2016. It’s straight fire and I expect it to do well in 2017.

Thomas Rhett – “T-Shirt”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes

Eric Paslay – “High Class”  |  Amazon MP3 · iTunes
In addition to it’s extremly uptempo energy, the last lyric of the chorus is absolutely money: “Tonight we high class.” I don’t know ’bout you, but it is absolutely perfect for a country wedding.
